Twin Spirits is a fusion of theatre and live classical music, conceived by acclaimed director and writer John Caird. Performed by an ensemble of eight musicians and actors, this intimate production tells the remarkable love story and artistic partnership of Robert and Clara Schumann through their letters, diaries, and contemporary writings, woven together with live performances of their most beloved music.

Distinct from older brother Joseph–renowned for his instrumental music and often referred to as the father of both the string quartet and the symphony–Michael Haydn established an outstanding reputation as a composer of sacred vocal music, with this program’s Requiem being a prime example. 

Haydn and Mozart enjoyed a collegial rapport for many years, dating back to their collaboration on Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots in 1767, when Mozart was only 11 years old. Later, as an adult, Mozart generously provided two pieces for violin and viola to complete a set of six duets for Haydn, who had fallen ill and could not fulfill the commission on time.
